چکیده

This paper discusses the numerical study of the effectiveness of atrium smoke exhaust systems. This study is part of a project initiated by ASHRAE and the National Research Council of Canada (NRCC), in which both physical and numerical techniques were employed to determine the effectiveness of such systems and to develop guidelines for their design. This paper presents numerical predictions obtained using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model and compares the numerical results with the experimental data obtained from tests performed in this project. Results are also presented for a real-scale atrium and are compared to the results of the scaled-down models. In addition, comparisons are made between the experimental data and results from a two-zone model, as well as results obtained from empirical correlations.

Experimental study and zone modeling of smoke movement in a model atrium

A series of atrium model tests were conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the smoke exhaust system in an atrium. The dimensions of the test compartment were 9 m × 6 m × 5.5 m height. The heat release rate ranged from 15 kW to 600 kW. The measured exhaust rate ranged from 1.94 to 5.13 kg/s. In this study, the experimental interface height between the smoke and cold layer is defined as th...

A Numerical Study on Using Air Cooler Heat Exchanger for Low Grade Energy Recovery from Exhaust Flue Gas in Natural Gas Pressure Reduction Stations

Heat EXchangers (HEX) that are used in City Gate Station (CGS) systems are modeled numerically to recover the exhaust waste heat. It was tried to find the best viscous model to obtain results in accordance with experimental results and to change the heat exchanger design. This HEX is used for recovering heat from exhaust flue gas with a mixture of 40% water and 60% ethylene glycol as the coolin...

Fire Whirls and Building Aerodynamics

Numerical modeling of the behavior of fire and smoke within proposed building atria have revealed the possible presence of violent fire whirls or fire tornadoes induced by an inadvertent combination of ventilation and exhaust openings. Such fire vortexes can accelerate combustion up to ten times that seen during conventional fires, rapidly move fire and debris across available evacuation routes...

بررسی تأثیر دود ماشین در میزان سیتوکین‌های TNF-α، IFN-γو IL-2 در سرم رت‌ها

Abstract Background: Any substance in the atmosphere that changes its physical, chemical and biological properties causes air pollution. These contaminants can enter the human body through nose, skin, mouth and digestive system and threaten human health. Vehicles produce contaminants like lead, particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. The purpose...

Preliminary Studies on Mechanical Smoke Exhausts in Large Space Building Fires

An analysis of the requirements for mechanical smoke exhaust in large space buildings was made and some experiments in a fire test atrium have been performed. It can be concluded that the temperature of smoke in large space building fire is usually quite low which makes them easy to descend and to mix with air. Usually it’s difficult to control the descending of a smoke layer effectively when t...
